"It's a snap to set up. Most importantly, it does the job without having to run new wiring all over your house."

"I'm getting speeds as if I
was connected straight to the modem."

"I'm in a 4,000 sq ft house that's over 60 years old, and these things still fly!"

"I'm getting a reliable 60 Mbps of actual file transfer speed. I consider this quite good, as I'm in a 1960s house with aluminum wiring, the two ends on different circuits, across a phase boundary, over a linear circuit distance of 350 feet."

"Our home was built in 1968 with metal lathe and thick plaster throughout. Prior to these devices, we could not find signal in our bedroom from the router in the opposite end of the house. Upon installation, the network was immediately visible and functioning... and has not so much as hiccuped since."

Greetings

With the new year, I am excited by the continuing growth in adoption of HomePlug technology and by our strong outlook for 2013. One exciting trend to note is the growth of HomePlug products in retail channels worldwide. Retailers are increasing their promotions of HomePlug products in their brick and mortar and online outlets, and consumers are realizing the benefits of using HomePlug for their online gaming, media streaming and internet connectivity needs. And, of course, HomePlug continues to be a preferred solution by many service providers for enabling their online applications in consumers' homes.
As we move into 2013, we are increasing our efforts around hybrid home networking (IEEE 1905.1), gigabit-class networking (HomePlug AV2), and Smart Energy Applications (HomePlug Green PHY & Netricity PLC/IEEE P1901.2).
I look forward to working with HomePlug members in another groundbreaking year for HomePlug technology and products.
          ~Rob Ranck, HomePlug Alliance president

HomePlug Alliance Marketing Name Change

HomePlug recently updated the Alliance's marketing name from "HomePlug Powerline Alliance" to "HomePlug Alliance." The primary motivations for this name change are:

  • The HomePlug brand has become an important industry validation of reliability for powerline networking products and promotes market awareness, interoperability and quality. De-emphasizing "powerline" helps promote the HomePlug brand as synonymous with powerline (similar to how Wi-Fi has become synonymous with wireless LANs).
  • Since HomePlug Alliance is now actively supporting technologies such as IEEE 1905.1 for hybrid networking and the Smart Energy Profile 2 (SEP 2.0) application layer, removing powerline from the marketing name was deemed a logical step.

We encourage HomePlug members to use our new Alliance marketing name and logo to indicate your HomePlug membership on your website and in collateral. Here's a link to updated Alliance logo usage information:

The HomePlug certification mark remains unchanged and, as always, you are encouraged to continue using it in conjunction with your HomePlug Certified products as a validation of performance, reliability and interoperability.

HomePlug Highlights Certification and Interoperability at CES 2013

CES 2013HomePlug enjoyed a successful CES 2013 January 8-11 in Las Vegas, NV. We shared a booth with our partners in hybrid networking: DLNA, MoCA and Wi-Fi Alliance. The connected home TechZone was located in South Hall 1, booth number 20300, and included meeting spaces and a public demonstration area showcasing the connections for the connected home. HomePlug was pleased to also showcase an interoperability demo in our meeting space, where devices from our 4 chipset manufacturers (Broadcom, Mstar, Qualcomm Atheros and Sigma Designs) were shown working together on the same network.

With a certification test bed consisting of 7 difference HomePlug AV chipsets, service providers and consumers can be confident the HomePlug Certified logo truly does stand for performance and interoperability. Over 300 products have been HomePlug Certified and well over 100 million HomePlug products are in the market as a result of retail sales and service provider deployments.
